The small town of Malchow is a pearl in the centre of the Mecklenburg Lake District. An earth dam and a listed swing bridge, which opens several times a day for boat traffic, connect the two parts of the town. There are also passenger boat moorings, a harbour, restaurants, cafés and shopping facilities here. Other attractions include the monastery church, the town mill, a large bathing beach, a summer toboggan run, a monkey forest and a riding centre just outside the town. Boat and bike hire can be found directly in the town as well as wellness, sports and golf facilities at the nearby holiday resort.
